Redmond Mayor John Marchione will participate in a one-mile walking tour on May 24 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. as part of this quarter’s Feet First Walk & Talk event.

The event will highlight the new Redmond Central Connector (RCC) Trail featuring the art of local artist John Fleming.

The new four-mile footpath will run through downtown Redmond, connecting Southeast Redmond to the Sammamish Valley neighborhood and linking to the Bear Creek and Sammamish River Trails.

The city enhancement will feature a cultural corridor that creates a new opportunity for people to enjoy a healthier way to get around town and will benefit the Redmond economy by encouraging people living, working and playing in downtown to support local businesses.

Marchione will kick off the event at the Veloce, located at 8102 161st Ave. N.E. in Redmond, thanking local artist Fleming for his artistic contribution to the trail. The artist’s work will blend Redmond’s natural environment with recycled railroad materials, traffic signs and technological aspects that would reflect on Redmond’s culture and environment.

The walk is organized by Feet First, the state’s only pedestrian advocacy group.

Executive Director Lisa Quinn said, “We are excited to bring people together who believe in the value of walkable neighborhoods out to meet the local artist and others instrumental in creating the Redmond Central Connector Trail, an investment in a healthy community. Feet First strongly believes walkable communities save lives, benefit health, protect the environment, improve quality of life and expand local economic growth.”

The event is free, however participants are asked to register in advance by visiting http://tinyurl.com/7d7rtfk or calling (206) 652-2310, ext. 5.

Following the walk, participants are invited to a hosted reception at the Veloce and featuring music by the LongShots.

The Walk & Talk event is sponsored by the Berger Partnership, City of Redmond, Veloce, Mobile Adventure Walks, Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union and Puget Sound Energy. The reception is supported by Trader Joe’s and PCC Natural Markets.
