Rush Elementary community donates enough school supplies to help an entire school in Uganda

In September, Benjamin Rush Elementary School collected school supplies for students in Uganda. Thanks to the Rush community, more than enough supplies were collected to help an entire school.

During two assemblies on May 5, the Sister Schools’ program director visited Rush to share how the donated school supplies impacted students in Africa.

“In a compelling and personal way, students learned about children whose lives are very different from their own. They gained an appreciation for their individual ability to help others,” reads a Lake Washington School District press release.

One student said, “Seeing the kids in Uganda so happy was giving me tears in my eyes. I love helping people in need.”

The two assemblies, one for grades K-2 and another for grades 3-5, encouraged students to think about how they could make a difference in their own community. The students were challenged to think about ways they could help make the lives of people around them better.
