Head for the Cure 5k Run and Walk will be back at Marymoor Park on July 9 to raise money for brain cancer research.
The event begins at 8 a.m. and costs $40 for registration and can be completed at Everyday Athlete in Kirkland or online at www.headforthecure.org.
The Marymoor 5k is one of around 20 nationwide that have raised nearly $9 million for research since the run was started in 2003 in Kansas City.
Last year, $1.8 million was raised, a press release said.
For the last 10 years, the organization Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative has been the primary beneficiary of the run’s proceeds. It is a network of 23 medical centers with the expertise and desire to participate in investigating new treatments for brain tumors, the press release said.
The local beneficiary is Alvord Brain Tumor Center at the University of Washington Medical Center.
According to the release, some 612,000 people in the U.S. are living with the diagnosis of a primary brain (malignant or non-malignant) or central nervous system tumor.
