City Seeks New Civil Service Commission Member

The soft deadline for the position is April 20, but the position will remain open until filled.

The City of Redmond has an opening on the Civil Service Commission for anyone who resides within Redmond city limits and has done so for a minimum of three years.

Applicants also need to be a registered U.S. citizen. The City is committed to having a Commission that reflects the diversity of the community and encourages applications from all residents with interest in the future of Redmond.

The Civil Service Commission is responsible for the hiring and promotional examinations for all regular status Public Safety positions. Additionally, it acts as an appeal board for Fire and Police grievances. Desirable qualities of a commissioner include a strong interest in public safety, an ability to review the meeting materials in advance, and skills in communicating with others. Civil Service Commissioners are typically appointed to six-year terms.

The three-member Commission meets with City staff and members of the public at 4:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month. Occasionally, there may be a need for a special meeting, to be scheduled at the availability of the Civil Service Commissioners.

To learn more about the commission or to apply, applicants can go to http://www.redmond.gov/Government/BoardsCommissions/, click on “Community Service Application” and submit a completed online application. The preferred date of application submissions has been extended to April 20 but the position will remain open until filled.
