Redmond community invited to participate in attempt for world’s largest Simon tournament

OneRedmond is hosting a Simon tournament from Sept. 13-14 in Redmond’s Downtown Park.

The tournament will be an attempt to break the world record and be listed in the Guinness Book of World Record as the first world’s largest digital memory game.

The Simon game was developed and its construction was co-led by Matt Wilson, along with Lloyd McCracken and John Hawkins. Volunteers from the Northwest Art Center also helped build the 20-foot by 20-foot game. The game was constructed from more than two kilometers of steel and includes tens of thousands of LED lights. The game took about two years to build.

“The coolest part was all the problems we ran into,” Wilson said. “Not one thing worked out as we had planned and overcoming those problems as a team was fun.”

Kristina Hudson, OneRedmond executive director, said the tournament was in the works for a few years. OneRedmond hosts two signature events every year and Hudson said they wanted to host something original that engaged people of all ages.

Northwest Art Center is a nonprofit art school in Duvall that offers classes for both adults and children.
