This holiday season, it’s time to experience the magical world of sugarplum fairies and nutcracker dolls brought to life, in the timeless Christmas tale — The Nutcracker.
The timeless ballet, featuring captivating choreography and elevating live music, is a beloved tradition that promises an exhilarating mix of holiday cheer, joy and uplifting energy.
At the heart of Emerald Ballet Academy’s award-winning success is artistic director and master instructor Viktoria Titova, who founded the academy in 2010.
This year, they’re excited to set a goal to raise $28,500 to support one of the most magical elements of the production: a live orchestra conducted by David Waltman.
Waltman serves as Music Director of the EBA Orchestra, Director Emeritus of the Rainier Symphony, and is a Permanent Guest Conductor of the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra.
The academy is beyond excited to have Waltman join them. “David had an exceptional ability and expertise to elevate any stage he performs on,” Titova says.
Nutcracker showcases the academy’s strong foundation in classical technique and artistic excellence, nurturing dancers of all ages, from beginners taking their first steps on stage to pre-professional students perfecting their craft.
Clara Chang, 12, has spent eight years with the academ and steps into the coveted role of “Little Clara.”
“Little Clara can be challenging because the role requires a lot of acting,” Chang shares, “but I find inspiration in my frequent, heartfelt interactions with the other dancers on stage.”
Alongside her is 15-year-old Chloe Zhang, in the role of “Big Clara.”
Having danced at EBA for four years, Chloe has embraced her role as a deep dive into storytelling.
“Playing Big Clara has inspired me to think more deeply about expression in ballet, by creatively exploring the transformation of my character,” Zhang says.
This heartwarming performance truly captures the essence of the holidays.
With sparkling costumes, beautiful sets and Titova’s original choreography, EBA’s Nutcracker is more than just a ballet, it’s a shared experience bringing families, friends and art lovers together.
Embrace the holiday spirit and support your local dancers and musicians. Bring your family and friends to enjoy the magic of the season with EBA’s delightful production of The Nutcracker.
Performances take place at the Northshore Performing Arts Center in Bothell Dec. 13, 14, 20 and 21 at 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online.
