Redmond’s No. 1 singles tennis player Kana Moriyama took second place at the 4A district meet last week and qualified for the 4A state tournament on May 29-30 in Richland.
Moriyama lost to Vivian Glozman of Newport, 6-0, 6-1, in the final.
The Mustang senior, who received a first-round bye as the second seed, won three straight matches over Sarvani Madapati of Inglemoor, 6-0, 6-0, in the second round; Sally Kim of Newport, 6-2, 6-0, in the quarterfinals; and Moriah Austin of Woodinville, 6-0, 6-4, in the semifinals.
In other action:
Redmond No. 3 singles player Ida Putnik beat Lulu Talmadge of Inglemoor, 6-2, 6-3, in the first round, before losing in the second round to Lucy Huffman of Issaquah, 6-0, 6-0.
In No. 1 doubles, Redmond’s Lety Santillana and Danika Shtukin lost a hard-fought match to Mount Si’s team of Kerry Pemberton and Emily Schwabe, 6-4, 6-3, in the second round.
Redmond’s No. 2 doubles team of Meg Leonard and Natalie Boesen defeated Rianna Edulee and Hannah Andres of Skyline, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4, in the second round before falling in the quarterfinals to the eventual district champions, Simran Ravichandran and Teagan Mach of Newport, 6-0, 6-0.
