LWSD superintendent releases statement following Marysville-Pilchuck shooting

Lake Washington School District (LWSD) Superintendent Traci Pierce has released the following statement in regards to the shooting at Marysville-Pilchuck High School:

Lake Washington School District (LWSD) Superintendent Traci Pierce has released the following statement in regards to the shooting at Marysville-Pilchuck High School:

“School shootings are alarming no matter where they happen. A tragedy like this in the Puget Sound area is especially disturbing. Our thoughts and prayers are with the students, parents and staff at Marysville-Pilchuck High.”

The Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility has released the following statement on the shooting:

“We are heartbroken that gun violence has once again touched a Washington school. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, everyone at Marysville-Pilchuck High School and the Marysville community.

While the facts of today’s shooting are still unclear, we do know that incidents like these are examples of the gun violence that’s all too frequent in our state. It is up to all of us to come together and work to reduce gun violence.”

Congresswoman Suzan DelBene issued the following statement following the shooting:

“I’m heartbroken and deeply saddened by the news of today’s tragedy at Marysville-Pilchuck High School. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, students, their families, school faculty, staff and all those affected by today’s shooting.

“No one should have to go through the horrific violence that occurred today, especially our children. As the Marysville-Pilchuck High School community comes together during this very difficult and terrible time, our region grieves with them and stands united in our support to help in any way.”

Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson also issued a statement after today’s shooting:

“My sympathies go out to the victims of the Marysville Pilchuck High School shooting and their families, and to all the other students, teachers and staff in that community. Today we are united in our grief. I want to express my gratitude to the Marysville Police and other first responders who risked their lives today, as they do every day, to defend our communities from senseless violence.”

In addition, Nicole Hockley, who lost her 6-year-old son Dylan, and Mark Barden, who lost his 7-year-old son Daniel in the Sandy Hook school shooting two years ago will be in Seattle Monday and Tuesday to speak in support of Initiative 594, which concerns background checks for firearm sales and transfers.The two parents’ trip had already been scheduled prior to today.
