Four Redmond High girls golfers will be headed to the 4A state tournament after stellar performances at this week’s Kingco and District 2 events at Snohomish Golf Course.

Senior Casie Helgeson finished sixth overall with a 81-73-154 on the par-72 course. Her 73 on the second day, Wednesday, was the third best round of the day and a personal best for her in an 18-hole high school tournament.

Sophomore Ally Collier took seventh overall with a 81-78-159. Her 78 was her best high school round and she notched pars on the last two holes.

Senior Mustang teammates Caity Minifie (87-89-176) and Melissa Marquez (88-88-176) competed in a sudden-death playoff hole for the final spot to state. With a large gallery following the golfers, Minifie grabbed the 14th spot and Marquez will be the first alternate at state.

“The Snohomish course is a challenging, hilly course with fast greens but the kids really put in the work the last 4-5 weeks to get ready for districts. Playing well at districts was our team goal all year and we accomplished it in spades,” said coach Jake Crowley.

The team finished third at districts with 42.5 points. Eastlake took first with 76.5 points and Newport notched second with 56.5 points.

Other Redmond girls who qualified for districts after the Kingco tourney on the first day, Tuesday, were Izzy Jenson, Christina Tobin, Lauren Settle and Rachel Johnson.

It will be Helgeson’s fourth state appearance, Minifie and Collier are going for the second time and Marquez will be a rookie at the event. State will take place May 28-29 at Club Green Meadows in Vancouver.

Helgeson is a first team all-Kingco selection and Collier is a second teamer.
