Sixteen students and alumni from Redmond’s Stella Schola Middle School (ages 13-15) donned their Santa hats and helped out at the Forgotten Children’s Fund (FCF) on Saturday as their semester project.

The FCF started after a boy named Craig wrote a letter to Santa Claus in 1976 asking for a gift — not for himself, but for his sister, who did not get anything for Christmas the previous year. Craig had thought she had been forgotten. The letter ended up touching the hearts of many people, and the FCF was born. This organization is a volunteer-only, nonprofit organization, which provides a memorable holiday to more than 80,000 youngsters and their families.

Dressing up in Santa hats, the Stella Schola students and alumni wrapped new toys and clothing for families in the greater Seattle area.

Tenth grader Julia Maher, who has been helping out for four years, said, “I loved doing this. We get to make a happy holiday for kids who might not get anything otherwise.”

By spending a Saturday morning serving others instead of sleeping in themselves, students got opportunity to embrace the spirit of the holidays by means of their gift of service.
