Frontier Communications completed full restoration of copper voice and broadband network services at about noon on Friday.
The remaining areas were neighborhoods in the vicinity of Northeast 80th Street and Northeast 87th Street (includes areas surrounding King County District Court and Edge Skate Park), and areas surrounding Redmond Way and the Cleveland corridor (including Lake McRedmond Landing, extending to Anderson Park).
“This was a massive restoration and repair effort, requiring all of our local resources as well as those from Frontier markets coast to coast. The destruction was extensive and an enormous amount of material and labor were required,” said Vicky Oxley, Frontier vice president and general manager for Washington state. “Frontier teams worked tirelessly around the clock to restore services. Frontier understands the importance of staying connected.”
The outage hit on Sept. 20 when an IMCO General Construction crew contracted by the City of Redmond cut through copper and fiber cables on Redmond Way and severely damaged Frontier’s network infrastructure.
When the magnitude of the situation became evident, Frontier hosted a community meeting to communicate and discuss the extent of the damage and its plans for restoration. Frontier also set up a dedicated 800 number and email address to enable customers to reach a local Redmond customer service specialist and to receive the latest update on the outage and ongoing repairs. And the company established a dedicated website to keep everyone informed.
In addition to the repair and communication efforts Frontier made, the company provided satellite broadband and opened up a free Wi-Fi network in downtown Redmond for businesses and residents to utilize throughout the restoration period.
“We truly employed every resource available to address the concerns of our customers,” Oxley said.
