Tomorrow night, Seattle restaurateur and Redmond resident John Howie will represent the state of Washington at the Democratic Governors Association (DGA) “Taste of America Gala: featuring America’s Democratic Governors & Best Chefs” in Washington D.C. 
Saturday’s dining event, presented in conjunction with the national non-profit hunger charity “Share Our Strength” includes 13 Democratic governors, among them Gov. Christine Gregoire, and an equal number of top U.S. chefs.
Howie said he will be preparing cream of porcini mushroom soup with black truffle crème to “show off the amazing black truffles that have been harvested this year in Washington state.”
He is also bringing along his 17-year-old son JoJo Howie and two New Zealand exchange students, who are currently living with the Howie family. 
“They will get to learn a little about our government and the restaurant business as I intend to put them to work on Saturday night!,” Howie said. 
In order to close the childhood hunger accountability gap, Share Our Strength has launched No Kid Hungry campaigns across the United States. The campaigns are a non-partisan effort aimed at ending childhood hunger in the United States by 2015. Washington is one of seven state program partners.
