Redmond-based Microsoft Corp. has made the Ethisphere Institute’s list of the World’s Most Ethical Companies for the second year in a row.

The company was one of 5,000 global companies evaluated and one of 145 named to the list this year.

The list includes five other companies in the computer software category: Adobe Systems, Salesforce.com, Symantec Corporation, Teradata Corporation and Wipro Ltd. In addition, two companies in the computer hardware category were also named: Hitachi Data Systems and Intel Corporation.

According to Ethisphere, each honoree was chosen for promoting ethical business standards and practices by exceeding legal minimums for compliance, introducing innovative ideas that benefit the public and forcing their competitors to follow suit.

Ethisphere is an international think tank focused on the creation, advancement and sharing of best practices in business ethics, corporate social responsibility, anti-corruption and sustainability.

Winning companies will be celebrated at a dinner in New York with keynote speaker former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright.
