OneRedmond, along with Washington Interactive Network (WIN) and the City of Bellevue, will be attending gamescom this week from Wednesday through Sunday.
The Washington contingent will be sending a delegation of six independent game studios to the international computer and video game trade fair — which will be in Cologne, Germany — to showcase their latest games.
Each Washington company will offer game demonstrations at the WIN booth.
In addition to industry giants such as Microsoft XBox, Valve, Nintendo and Bungie, the Pacific Northwest is also home to a number of independent game developers.
“Indie game developers are now the source of so many great new ideas that are taking the game business forward,” said Ed Fries, industry advisor to WIN and former vice president of Microsoft Game Studios. “This is where the creative talent is coming from; they are the ones that are taking risks and discovering what can be done in video games.”
WIN provides support to developers, entrepreneurs and startups with educational programs, mentorships, and showcase opportunities at events like gamescom.
As one of the largest events in the world, with more than 335,000 visitors last year, gamescom presents a platform for independent game studios to showcase their products to the European and international computer and video game industries.
