I must say that Jim Robinson makes a good point about seeking change in Redmond government (Letter to the Editor, Feb. 7 issue).
Had the letter been written 18 months ago it would have been both timely and prescient.
I read Mr. Robinson’s letter to the Reporter in the Feb. 7 issue, and I feel it is important to reply.
I whole-heartedly disagree with Leslie McCormick’s letter printed in the Jan. 21 issue of the Redmond Reporter.
From the front page of Jan. 7 Redmond Reporter, it appears that the Redmond Reporter is almost as enamored with Redmond’s elected politicians as they are with themselves.
I have read with interest and humor many of the letters and comments on our recent snow storm and how we coped, or should I say cooped up.
CARLSON COLUMN
Government should not have a say
I was surprised to see Reporter columnist John Carlson defend political correctness in his Dec. 9 opinion piece on the displays at the State Capitol.
As a member of the board of trustees for the Crisis Clinic, thank you for the quality of your “Budgets cuts devastating to Eastside non-profits” article in the Nov. 19 issue.
“Budget cuts devastating to Eastside nonprofits,” the headline from Nov. 19 Redmond Reporter is our call to action.
CITY BUDGET
Survey for responsible government?
According to a recent letter in the Redmond Reporter, the city of Redmond plans to spend $250,000 of other people’s, that is, taxpayers’, money for a survey on responsible government.
If the city’s politicians, some of whom have been in office since the beginning of time, do not know what responsible government is, and if they do not have the ability to communicate that to the permanent bureaucracy, they should, perhaps, try another line of work.
JOHN CARLSON
Column full of ‘partisan hackery’
John Carlson’s praise for Dino Rossi’s losing campaign and criticism of Darcy Burner and Christine Gregoire in “The Impact of 2008 Elections,” in the Nov. 15 Redmond Reporter isn’t insightful commentary, it’s partisan hackery.
I was pleased to see the article in the Oct. 29 issue about the Redmond High School cheer coach being dismissed. I am equally disturbed by the actions of the LWSD. The kids on the cheer squad are devastated by this situation. It appears that complainants have succeeded in railroading the coach out the door.
