Prison reform needed | Letter

I want freedom for criminalized people of color in private prisons.

Washington is one of the few states that has legal marijuana, but all across the nation, people of color have been criminalized for non-violent drug use. Former President Bill Clinton’s three strikes law has kept black people in prison for decades, and many are going to spend life for nonviolent crimes.

I want the destruction of the private prison system. I want those imprisoned for nonviolent drug crimes to receive compensation. I want reparations for families who have been torn apart because of the war on drugs. I want a change to the 13th Amendment in the Constitution that legalizes slavery for incarcerated people.
