Acclaimed harpist to perform at Redmond United Methodist Church

All are invited to a performance by acclaimed harpist Bronn Journey, at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 19 at Redmond United Methodist Church, 16540 NE 80th St. Admission is free but guests will be asked for a donation to Hopelink, the Redmond-based non-profit which serves low-income and disabled people throughout the Eastside.

Journey has entertained Northwest audiences for more than 30 years and is known for his musical versatility, as well as his easy rapport with fans. His concert repertoire includes everything from classical music and hymns to Broadway show tunes and pop/rock hits. For more information, visit www.bronnjourney.com/bio.html.

“Make love your aim” is the motto at Redmond United Methodist Church. The congregation is legendary for its community outreach programs. As a member of the Eastside Interfaith Social Concerns Council, it is one of several churches which hosts rotating groups of homeless men or women. As well, many local support groups hold meetings at Redmond United Methodist.

With regard to the Bronn Journey benefit for Hopelink, Pastor Dennis Magnuson noted, “I just got a letter from Hopelink saying the number of calls is up by 70 percent since this time last year. Need is up and donations are down.”

Magnuson encourages donations of Safeway gift cards, because recipients can use them for food, diapers, gas for their cars or whatever they are lacking.

In another response to timely concerns, Redmond United Methodist has embarked on an environmental stewardship campaign. “We’re saying ‘go green and save green,'” said Magnuson.

They’ve purchased new light fixtures which use less energy, have painted the building a lighter color to reflect sunlight and installed low-flow toilets, to “save money and be more environmentally responsible,” he added.

They’ve also switched to recycled paper and are phasing out old cleaning products in favor of those that are non-toxic.
