Commissioned specifically for the Redmond Library by the Nokomis Club, as part of their centennial celebration, the piece is called “Women of Vision” and was created by local artist John Tapert. It combines fused glass, a historical photograph of the 12 original Nokomis members and imbedded gold leaf to celebrate this pioneering group of women who laid the foundation for the community’s first library nearly 100 years ago.

The “Ladies,” as current Nokomis members refer to them, operated an informal library until about 1927 and helped raise money to construct an actual library building in 1933. They operated that library until 1947 when the library joined the newly-formed (in 1943) King County Rural Library District.

Among modern-day Nokomis Club activities, the group awards an annual college scholarship.
