Digital Arts Festival showcases Redmond talent

Redmond’s second Digital Arts Festival will take place on Jan. 15-16, 2010 at Redmond City Hall, DigiPen Institute of Technology and Digital Double Motion Capture Studios. The all-ages event is a celebration of digital arts for the general public, artists and industry experts in video game production and digital technology.

Registration is free for much of the festival, including the presentations and motion capture open house. The workshops at DigiPen Institute of Technology are $10 each and tickets can be purchased online through the festival’s Web site at www.redmondartsfestival.com.

The festival includes presentations by Ben Cammarano, Director of Art for Microsoft Game Studios; Ed Fries, CE0 for Figure Prints and co-founder of Airtight Games and Chris Taylor, founder of Gas Powered Games.

J-Walt, an expert in visual effects and animation, will perform Spontaneous Fantasia, a solo show of his own images and music, drawing virtual landscapes and geometric abstractions with software and computer interfaces he designed.

“The presentations, demonstrations and hands-on workshops at the festival will inspire and educate all those who attend,” noted Mayor John Marchione. “The Redmond Digital Arts Festival celebrates Redmond’s creative individuals and cutting-edge industries.”

New this year is an art installation of sound and light at Redmond Town Center from Dec. 4-12. While sponsored by the Digital Art Festival, this unique experience is also part of Redmond Lights winter festival.

Sonic Forest is a large, interactive sound and light sculpture created by artist/architect Christopher Janney. The sculpture is one of Janney’s urban instruments played by people as they wave their hands over different parts of the sculpture. There will be a special opening of Sonic Forest at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4.
