Fine jewelry trunk show coming to Bear Creek Florist

An experienced fine jeweler is teaming up with a well-known florist for a unique business collaboration next week.

Longtime friends Barbara Welcome and Lisa Aliment will collaborate for the first time on a fine jewelry trunk show next Friday and Saturday, July 24-25 at Bear Creek Florist, 17186 Redmond Way.

Welcome, along with her husband, Robert, operates Exquisite Jewelry out of their extravagant Redmond home, which includes a 1,000-square-foot jewelry showroom with an elevator.

Barbara will be bringing a sample of her rare, upscale diamonds and colored stones, along with her rich knowledge in jewelry, to Aliment’s cozy floral/gift shop, Bear Creek Florist, on July 24 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and on July 25 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

The business collaboration is two-fold, Aliment said.

First, it gives residents the opportunity to meet Barbara, a wholesale jeweler who has a large inventory, a knowledgeable jeweler in her husband and a talented goldsmith in Daniel Leslie. And second, it gives people just another reason to stop in and shop at Bear Creek Florist, which offers much more than just flowers, like affordable jewelry, purses, scarfs and other gift items.

“This will be a fun event,” said Aliment, whose father opened Bear Creek Florist in 1978. “I am not competing with Barbara. When you want fine jewelry, you want a connection and someone who can talk stones with you. I don’t have that knowledge, but Barbara and her husband do.”

Barbara, one of the original customers at Bear Creek Florist, said she and her husband have been in the jewelry business for more than three decades. She said she used to operate three different stores, including one in Redmond Town Center, under the name Jewel Temptations, but recently she set up shop at her Redmond home “because of an illness in the family.”

Barbara imports all of her rare diamonds and stones from Africa and has a wide selection.

“We probably have one of the largest selection of jewelry that you will find in the Northwest,” Barbara said. “We’ve had other goldsmiths come out and other people from jewelry stores and they see our selection and say ‘wow.’”

Exquisite Jewelry specializes in custom-made jewelry and Barbara’s goldsmith, Leslie, has a shop at her home and “is one of the best around,” Barbara said.

“He is a perfectionist,” she said.

Besides rich knowledge, fine workmanship and a large inventory, what sets Exquisite Jewelry apart from other jewelers is that Barbara can sell her stones at wholesale prices because she owns all of her jewels and stones, she said, adding that she can keep her prices lower because she doesn’t have inflating overhead costs, like rent, she said.

Next week’s jewelry truck show at Bear Creek Florist gives Barbara a chance to meet possible customers before bringing them to her high-end home/extravagant jewelry store, Aliment said.

“It’s a unique opportunity to meet a jewelry wholesaler and to get some custom jewelry done,” Aliment said. “For Barbara, it’s a safety thing, too. Since she has large inventory in a private residence, it kind of gives her a chance to meet one-on-one with people.”

In addition, Barbara can help educate residents about fine jewelry.

“There is a lot of misinformation out there,” Barbara said. “This will help educate. Even if people don’t buy from me and go somewhere else, they will know what to ask and they will know what to look for.”

Aliment said if next week’s event is successful, the two will collaborate on future projects.
