The Northwest premiere of “Natural Selection,” Eric Coble’s futuristic satire, opens at SecondStory Repertory at Redmond Town Center on Friday, June 4, directed by former Washington Ensemble Theatre artistic director Katjana Vadeboncouer.

“Natural Selection” kicks off the new annual series of “science-based” plays at SecondStory, Redmond’s only professional theatre company and the winner of Redmond’s annual arts award for 2010.

Taking place in the very near future, this social satire centers around Henry Carson, a theme park curator sent into the wild of North America in search for a rare, full-blooded Navajo to re-stock the Native American pavilion. Between his wife’s blogging, the unearthly rain and his “Indian” not turning out to be what he expected, will Henry even notice that the world is sliding toward Apocalypse?

“Natural Selection” features Gerald B. Browning, Dallas Milholland, Ryan Palomo, Patrick Allcorn, Hannah Victoria Franklin and chid actor Ernie Musser. The production is stage-managed by Kristin Calhoun, costume designed by Laurie Roberts and features the work of set designer Dan Schuy, lighting designer Rob Falk and sound designer Scott Currie.

“Natural Selection” has a Pay-What-You-Can preview at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 3. The show officially opens on June 4 and runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. through June 26.

Tickets are $25 for general admission and $19 for students, seniors or educators with ID.
