On Saturday, an audience of all ages attended the Redmond Chorale‘s Summer Pops Concert at the Meadowbrook Church in Redmond.
The performance opened with “A Sentimental Journey,” a 1944 standard that doubled as the name of the concert. Other pieces included The Beatle’s “Blackbird” performed by a quintet of teen chorale members; a song-and-dance number of Rolf Harris’s “Jake the Peg” by Adam Smalley; and the Andrews Sisters’ “Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy.”
The men of the Redmond Chorale performed a medley of Beach Boys songs, including “Surfin’ USA,” “I Get Around” and “Fun, Fun, Fun.”
As a whole, the chorale’s performances included “Precious Lord,” “Love Me Tender,” “My Heart Will Go On” and “Ashokan Farewell” as an encore number.
The Redmond Chorale is a mixed-voice community choir that performs both secular and sacred music. The organization raises funds for charitable causes in and around Redmond. Saturday’s concert benefitted Healthy Start, a parenting education and support program for young families. Previous concerts have benefitted Avondale Park Transitional Housing and Eastside Baby Corner.
The Redmond Chorale welcomes new members. Some vocal music experience is preferred, but not required. Rehearsals are held Monday evenings 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Meadowbrook Church, located at 17944 N.E. 65th St. Interested adults and high school students can contact Laurie Betts Hughes at (425) 372-8970 or lauriebetts@gmail.com.
