Redmond scouts offering three collection dates for Christmas tree recycling

Redmond Boy Scout Troop 557 is offering residents a number of dates for them to recycle their Christmas trees.

Scouts are collecting trees on Saturday as well as Jan. 7-8, 2017 in assigned areas. Fliers have been mailed out to residents from the troop assigned to collect in their area with the collection dates.

Each year, scouts canvas neighborhoods throughout Redmond, picking up Christmas trees after the holiday and troops across the Eastside are assigned collection areas throughout Redmond. Each troop notifies the neighborhoods about the recycling event, namely through fliers or community and homeowner association emails.

Scouts will collect trees left on the curb by residents.

Each Redmond Boy Scout troop operates independently so residents should check their fliers for their neighborhood’s collection date. This year, different troops are doing different dates.

Donations received for Christmas tree recycling services are used to help fund troop events, outdoor activities and educational programs for the upcoming year.

For Troop 557, Christmas tree recycling is the only fundraiser the boys do during the year. The suggested donation amount is $15 per tree.

The troop also operates a collection station at the QFC Bella Bottega parking lot located at Northeast 90th Street and 161st Avenue Northeast. This station will be collecting trees those same dates, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If residents didn’t receive a flier, they can call Troop 557’s Christmas tree hotline at (425) 954-6110 for more information. If the address is not in Troop 557’s collection area, residents will be referred to the troop who does collect in their area.
