Overlake Terrace brings healthcare home!

On-site services and amenities make it easier than ever to get the care you need

The convenience of having something right at your fingertips is undeniably beneficial. This rings especially true for those who call Overlake Terrace home – here residents enjoy access to a full array of services and resort-style amenities, including complimentary laundry facilities, a full dining room with expert chefs, and 24-hour staffing and emergency response.

In particular, the residence’s on-site physical and occupational therapy has yielded some significant benefits for residents.

“While there are many benefits for patients undergoing physical and occupational therapy, I think it proves especially useful for residents at Overlake,” says Director of Rehabilitation, Megha Sheth.

Physical therapy:

“We use physical therapy to help take care of our patients and to promote healing. By always using a unique and tailored approach, it helps ensure they’re getting a customized plan to help them reach their goals, whatever they may be,” Sheth explains.

For residents of Overlake, it proves especially useful for improving gait and balance, which helps to limit the chances of falls. Their newfound mobility brings more freedom, including taking advantage of outdoor spaces that may have been previously off limits due to uneven ground.

One resident used physical therapy so he could attend a Veterans Day ceremony without the use of his walker. He began with two sessions a week and eventually moved to three, and in the end he was able to attend the ceremony without any assistance!

“It was really incredible seeing how much physical therapy helped him, he’s gained so much more independence from it – it’s so rewarding,” Sheth notes.

Occupational therapy:

Occupational therapy is used for physical, sensory or cognitive problems, so it proves particularly useful for memory enhancement or home safety management.

“For residents that have just moved in, it can be a really overwhelming experience to leave their home environment for this new facility. We can use occupational therapy to help make sure they’re safe within their environment,” Sheth explains. “We can also use occupational therapy to help residents maintain their current continence levels and to prevent any further decline.”

Apart from physical and occupational therapy sessions, Overlake Terrace also hosts 30-minute exercise sessions daily, where everyone’s welcome to join in – enjoy some dance moves, chair yoga and some regular strengthening exercises.
