11 Redmond-area students receive National Merit scholarships

Eleven students from Redmond and Redmond schools have received $2,500 scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

Eleven students from Redmond and Redmond schools have received $2,500 scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

Fifty-one students were selected statewide for these awards.

Redmond-area students receiving National Merit scholarships are:

Redmond High School

Gil Guday, Mayukha Vadari, Kyungyoon Yoo, Isabel Yoon and Aaron Zhang

International Community School

Matthew Calligaro

Nikola Tesla STEM High School

Udit Ranasaria and Sophia Tevosyan

Transition School for Early Entrance Program

Kaushal Mangipudi

The Overlake School

Ruth S. Nordhoff

The Bear Creek School

Caleb W. Ji

These students are 11 of the 2,500 high school seniors nationwide to win this scholarship. They were selected from a talent pool of more than 15,000 finalists in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program.

National Merit scholarship winners are the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies. A committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors selected these students as scholarship winners. These scholars may use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university.
