AAUW Kirkland-Redmond branch honors young women in science, technology or math

Eleven young women from the Lake Washington School District (LWSD), including three from Redmond High School, were honored as STEM (Science, Technology or Math) Scholars by the Kirkland-Redmond branch of the AAUW (American Association of University Women) in an April 15 presentation at the LWSD Resource Center.

Eleven young women from the Lake Washington School District (LWSD), including three from Redmond High School, were honored as STEM (Science, Technology or Math) Scholars by the Kirkland-Redmond branch of the AAUW (American Association of University Women) in an April 15 presentation at the LWSD Resource Center.

The young women who received recognition, their schools and their areas of expertise are:

• Briana Gahler, Redmond High School, technology

• Stephanie Hsieh, Redmond High School, science

• Devin McMahon, Redmond High School, math

• Samantha Brender, Lake Washington High School, technology

• Grant Jenkins, Lake Washington High School, math

• Mary Jones, Lake Washington High School, science

• Jessica Gutierrez, BEST High School, math

• Ali Telkamp, BEST High School, science

• Bonnie Gilbery, Juanita High School, math

• Stephanie King, Juanita High School, technology

• Hannah Skurnik, Juanita High School, science

AAUW supports women and girls in educational and career opportunities, especially promoting pay equity in the workplace and encouraging female students to pursue careers in fields that have traditionally been dominated by male workers.
