Other Redmond area projects included about 50 AT&T volunteers and about 30 PCL and Astronics volunteers doing clean-up work at Friends of Youth and VFW Post 2995, respectively.  Overall in the King County area, more than 12,000 volunteers worked on community service projects by renovating community centers, reading to children, filling backpacks and nutritious meals for hungry kids to take home for the weekend backpack program and more. A total of 256 nonprofit agencies got a boost from the volunteer labor, which is valued at $1.4 million. Andy Nystrom, Reporter Newspapers
