Workers raise the blue-and-yellow Big Top this afternoon for Cirque du Soleil’s production of “Kurios” — Cabinet of Curiosities — which will open Jan. 29 and run through March 22 at Marymoor Park.
The Big Top stands 62 feet high, is 168 feet in diameter and is supported by four masts, each 85 feet tall. It seats approximately 2,700 guests and requires a team of approximately 50 people to raise it. There are more than 1,200 stakes dug 4 feet into the ground to hold the tents in place.
The site takes six days to completely set up and two days to tear down. This includes the installation of the Big Top, entrance and artistic tents, box office, administrative offices and a kitchen and dining area for cast and crew.
The Big Top, the VIP Rouge and artistic tents are all climate controlled with air conditioning.
“Kurios” travels in 65 trailers, carrying close to 2,000 tons of equipment.
