Bear Creek girls, boys are set for today’s state title matches | 1B/2B Soccer

It's Bear Creek times two in today's 1B/2B state soccer finals. In yesterday's semifinal matches, the Grizzly girls romped over Liberty Bell, 7-0, and the boys inched past St. George's, 2-1, at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner.

In yesterday’s semifinal matches, the Grizzly girls romped over Liberty Bell, 7-0, and the boys inched past St. George’s, 2-1, at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner.

The girls (15-2-1) will take on Crosspoint Academy at 2 p.m. in the final. If the Grizzlies win, it will be their third straight state crown.

The boys (20-2-0) will battle Grace Academy at 4 p.m. for the state title.

GOALS GALORE

In yesterday’s Bear Creek girls game, Hannah Bauermeister scored first in the second minute. Also tallying for the Grizzlies were Jill Leszynski, Sara Hastings, Whitney Isbell and Caroline Bridgwater, who netted a pair of goals. Liberty Bell had an own goal midway through the first half.

Goalkeeper Maya Shipway earned the shutout.

Crosspoint Academy defeated Adna, 7-6, in a penalty kick shootout to grab a spot in the final.

LAST-MINUTE GOAL

Excitement reigned supreme for Bear Creek in the boys semifinal.

Bear Creek’s Sajan Nauriyal scored in the final minute to punch the Grizzlies’ ticket to the state final.

Sam Humphries gave the locals a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute, and St. George’s equalized in the 76th minute.

Grace Academy defeated Waitsburg-Prescott, 3-1, to advance to the final.
