This week, The Bear Creek School’s Upper School ASB is sponsoring Spirit Week to promote school spirit and engage the school population for a worthy cause, Strong Against Cancer (www.strongagainstcancer.org).
On Monday, Jeff Towne, the founder of The Ben Towne Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research, spoke at a student assembly about the leading-edge immunotherapy research conducted by Dr. Michael Jensen and his team.
Throughout the week, students can purchase purple capes ($10 each). The ASB community service committee is sewing the capes and will donate the proceeds to Strong Against Cancer.
In addition, a Russell Wilson poster will be hung in the main hallway and the student body will be able to take “selfies” with Wilson and post them using the #strongagainstcancer hashtag on their social media channels to promote awareness for cancer research and Seattle Children’s Hospital.
As is traditional during high school spirit weeks, each day has a designated spirit dress theme:
- Monday: Sports Fan Day
- Tuesday: Twin Day
- Wednesday: Lumberjack Day
- Thursday: America Day
- Friday: Blackout with Purple Capes
On Friday evening, Bear Creek will host league rival The Overlake School in the final home basketball games of the season and Senior Night celebration. Seniors will be honored prior to the varsity girls and boys games. Boys JV plays at 4:30 p.m.; girls varsity plays at 6:00 p.m.; and boys varsity plays at 7:30 p.m.
Students will continue the blackout and purple cape dress theme at the game.
Finally, the week will culminate with a Christian hip-hop concert, when the Jam the Hype Tour will stop at the school on Saturday night. The concert is private event for the Bear Creek community only; tickets are $10 at the door and proceeds will be donated to Strong Against Cancer. This concert is not open to the public.
