On Dec. 6, math teams from The Bear Creek School competed at the state-level Math Is Cool Masters contest hosted by Moses Lake High School.

Schools around the state sent their top four math students to compete.

Individually, senior Caleb Ji took first place overall at the calculus competition (most-advanced level).

Bear Creek’s grades 11-12 team (Scott Carlson, Bill Liu, and Weija Wang, all juniors, plus Ji) placed fourth in the Elite division — the top eight schools in the state regardless of size.

The grades 9-10 team (sophomores Michelle Patten and Blaine Mitchell and freshmen Alicia Stepin and Daniel Rasmussen) placed seventh in division I (larger schools).

Bear Creek’s Middle School team (seventh-graders Andrew H. and Christina S. and eighth-grader Malcom W.) placed second in the division I grade 8 contest.
