The Bear Creek School’s forensics team recently sent its largest-ever contingent to compete at Snohomish High School in the National Forensic League (NFL) Puget Sound District National Qualifying Tournament for chances to compete June 15-20 at nationals in Overland Park, Kansas.

National qualifiers are:

Colin Diamond, junior — Lincoln Douglas — the resolution debated was “Resolved: Placing political conditions on humanitarian aid to foreign countries is unjust.”

Grace Carruth and Jesse Domingo, both juniors — Duo Interpretation — an interpretation of a script from “Granny Torrelli Makes Soup” by Sharon Creech

Carruth — Oratory (but NFL rules preclude her competing in two events, so she’s only competing at nationals in Duo Interpretation).

According to coach Kevin Davison, “This is the largest tournament of the year, without equal, with thousands of people coming in. Finals rounds have been televised on ESPN before. There is no singular higher honor than competing at NFL nationals, with the exception of winning it!”

Competitors at districts were:

Lincoln Douglas: Diamond, Rachael Burch, Anthony Tzen and Alex Levasseur

Public Forum: Tim Van Baak and Justina Goldbeck, Alana Fiske and Phoenix Moomaw and Anthea Barlett and Jenny Moon

Oratory: Carruth, Jacqueline Hom and Adam Worley

Duo Interpretation: Carruth and Jesse Domingo

Humorous Interpretation: Domingo and Seth McBride

Dramatic Interpretation: Jacqueline Hom
