Bloodworks Northwest and Whole Foods Market partner to save lives

Everyone who registers to donate at Whole Foods Market blood drives in July will receive a complimentary 12-ounce bag of Caffé Vita coffee as part of the Bloodworks Northwest “Keeping Our Communities Whole” program. The program goal is to boost blood donations during National Blood Donor Month.

Whole Foods Market will sponsor 17 blood drives at stores across Western Washington and Oregon.

The drive at the Redmond location (17991 N.E. Redmond Way) will take place July 7.

“As the Northwest’s leading community blood center, we strive to keep our communities whole and healthy by providing blood for patients in local hospitals every day,” said Clint Kendrick, senior director of Blood Services. “We’re excited to partner with Whole Foods Market to encourage more people to donate blood, and to ensure that local hospitals are well-supplied during the challenging summer months.”

The blood collected will help trauma victims, treat cancer patients, and those receiving organ or bone marrow transplants. Bloodworks provides blood to more than 90 hospitals in the Pacific Northwest, including Harborview, UW Medical Center, Swedish, Virginia Mason, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and Seattle Children’s.

Donating blood takes less than an hour and because blood can be broken down into its three components, each donation, about a pint, can potentially save three lives.
