Bomb squad diagnoses tampered-with spray bottle found at Overlake Safeway as harmless

Bomb technicians were called to the Overlake Safeway after a suspicious, tampered-with liquid cleanser spray bottle was found in one of the aisles early this morning during closed hours.

Redmond Police got a call at 3:20 a.m. that an employee who was cleaning up an aisle had found a Scrubbing Bubbles spray bottle containing a “kitty litter- type granulated substance with a wire protruding from the bottom of the bottle,” according to Redmond Police spokesperson Jim Bove.

Bomb technicians from the Bellevue Police Department arrived at the store, located at 15000 NE 24th St., and diagnosed “that whatever was in the bottle was harmless,” Bove said.

The bomb technicians believed the bottle to either be a prank or part of the display-only product, according to Bove, who added that there was “no harm or damage to anything.”
