Speed appears to be the main cause of a Wednesday morning collision on Redmond Way involving a car and semi-truck that sent a man to the hospital, according to a Redmond Police Department press release.

The truck was in the process of making a wide right turn near 15300 Redmond Way at around 7:20 a.m. when the car sped up, tried to pass the truck on the right, hit the truck and became wedged underneath the trailer. Both vehicles were going westbound on Redmond Way when the accident occurred.

The driver of the Ford Focus, a 53-year-old man, was transported to Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland with injuries to the left side of the body. The injuries initially appeared to be serious but Redmond police spokesperson Jim Bove said the injuries turned out to be minor.

“(The driver is) still at the hospital but it’s expected that he’ll be released soon,” Bove said.

The driver’s two teenage sons were in the vehicle and sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the truck was hauling dry goods and was uninjured.

Police closed some lanes of traffic near westbound 15300 Redmond Way while the Redmond Police Traffic Unit investigated the collision.

Bove said they were able to remove the car from beneath the truck just before 10:30 a.m. and all lanes on Redmond Way are now open.

Drivers should expect delays in the area of 148th Avenue Northeast, Redmond Way and West Lake Sammamish Way throughout the morning.
