In September, the Redmond City Council convened an independent salary commission to review and set salaries for council members in accordance with an established city ordinance. The commission, composed of seven Redmond residents appointed by Mayor John Marchione and confirmed by the council, began its work in early October and recently announced its findings.

The salary schedule approved by a super majority of the members includes a $100 per month increase – from $850 per month to $950 per month – for City Council members beginning Jan. 1, 2011. In addition, a $50 per month increase was approved to take effect Jan. 1, 2012 bringing the total compensation at that time to $1000 per month.

The commission also recommended the City Council convene the salary commission bi-annually to ensure the review of council salaries takes place on a regular basis.

The complete report from the salary commission is available on the City of Redmond’s website at www.redmond.gov/insidecityhall/boards/salary.asp.
