Redmond City Councilmember John P. “Pat” Vache has announced that he is seeking re-election for position 2 on the council.

He first served on the council from 1981-88 and was president of the council from 1985-88. He has been vice president of the council from 2003 to the present and is a member of the Parks and Human Services and Public Safety committees.

In a press release, Vache stated, “For the previous six years, I provided leadership with a particular emphasis on fiscal stewardship, economic vitality and human services. With the last two budget cycles, Redmond began to take a different approach to fiscal management and in the process, took aggressive steps to slow the rate (of) spending growth that in turn, led to a AAA bond rating for the city. Facing the spending challenge early has positioned the city to navigate what has become an unprecedented worldwide economic recession. By seeking reelection, I am committing to sound fiscal responsibility.”

Vache continued, “I have spent my professional career managing small businesses. Since 1987, I have either managed or owned businesses in Redmond. I know the importance of a strong business community to the whole city and the difficulties and rewards of providing goods, services and jobs to the community.”

Vache and his family, which includes four children, have lived in Redmond since 1977. He said they have chosen to make this region their home “because this is a great place to live, work and play. My experience, leadership and commitment to the community will help us keep Redmond the city the place of choice.”

Among Vache’s appointed positions, he served on the City of Redmond Governance Task Force in 1990 and 2002; on the City of Redmond Transportation Task Force in 2000; and on the Redmond Planning Commission (Policy Advisory Committee) in 1980-81.

As a civic volunteer, he currently is vice-president of the board of directors at Hopelink; a founding trustee of the Lake Washington Schools Foundation; vice-president of the Family Resource Center; a board member of Reach (diversity training center); and a board member of the Greater Redmond Chamber of Commerce.

Vache holds a B.A. in business administration from the University of Washington and served in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1965, including active duty from 1960-63.

He is presently employed as a partner in Kinections, LLC, a counsultancy providing human resource services and products to the mid-market.
