City, county to offer incentives to owners of historic properties

The City of Redmond is working on a project with King County Historic Preservation that will offer increased benefits to owners of historic properties listed on the Redmond Heritage Resource Register.

The Redmond Heritage Resource Register, created by the Redmond City Council in the early 2000s, designates 16 historic properties within Redmond as City Landmarks.

In order for these properties to be eligible to receive significant incentives administered by King County, the King County Landmarks Commission (KCLC) must designate each property as a City of Redmond Historic Landmark. Incentives administered by King County include special tax valuation for historic properties; a landmark loan fund and landmark grant programs that can be used by property owners making modifications to their historic properties; and technical assistance for property owners proposing changes to their historic property.

The City of Redmond also administers a landmark grant program that provides matching and non-matching grants for property owners making modifications to their historic property.

The KCLC will consider each of the properties for designation at four public hearings scheduled between March and July. The hearing dates, locations, and properties under consideration are as follows:

• Anderson Park, Conrad Olsen Farmstead and Hutcheson Homestead will be discussed at 7 p.m. Monday, March 8 at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center, 16600 NE 80th St.

• Bill Brown Saloon, Brown’s Garage, Redmond State Bank and Redmond School will be discussed at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 22 at Redmond City Hall, Council Chambers, 15670 NE 85th St.

• Justice White House, Odd Fellows Hall, Redmond Cemetery and Redmond Methodist Church will be discussed at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 27 at Redmond City Hall, Council Chambers.

• Haida House Studio, Lodge Hall, Perrigo House and Redmond Trading Company will be discussed at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 22 at Redmond City Hall, Council Chambers.
