City seeking artists for Redmond Lights

This December, temporary artist-commissioned light installations will provide something new at Redmond Lights, Redmond's annual event that celebrates the city's diverse winter traditions, cultures and faiths. The festival is sponsored by the City of Redmond and Redmond Town Center. This year these new light installations will punctuate the event along the Luminary Walk and potentially on the Municipal Campus.

This December, temporary artist-commissioned light installations will provide something new at Redmond Lights, Redmond’s annual event that celebrates the city’s diverse winter traditions, cultures and faiths. The festival is sponsored by the City of Redmond and Redmond Town Center. This year these new light installations will punctuate the event along the Luminary Walk and potentially on the Municipal Campus.

Artists are invited to submit proposals to provide new or existing temporary illuminated artworks as part of the event. Awards will be granted up to $3,000.

Installations can include illuminated two- or three- dimensional, multi-media works under the theme of “light and peace.” This can include, but is not limited to, use of projections, LED lights, lanterns and sound and/or sensors. Proposals must be original to the artist, although this can include existing work(s) by the artist. Installations must also be waterproof and weatherproof, as Redmond Lights takes place rain or shine.

“This is the first year the city is putting out a call for light installations. We look forward to engaging with artists and incorporating public art into the magical experience of Redmond Lights,” said Jessica Rubenacker, Cultural Arts administrator.

The deadline to apply is Oct. 31, and application details can be found at www.redmondlights.com under “Get Involved.”

A site walk-through will be available from 2-3 p.m. Oct. 24, selection announcement will be Nov. 4 and installation will be Dec. 3.
