The City of Redmond is seeking public input regarding potential changes to Redmond’s zoning regulations regarding retail marijuana stores. The city will host a public workshop at 6 p.m. this Thursday in Bytes Café at Redmond City Hall. Citizens are encouraged to attend this workshop.
Recent changes in state law regarding retail marijuana now allow cities to reduce the required distance between retail marijuana stores and daycares, recreation centers, libraries, parks, transit centers and game arcades down to a minimum of 100 feet. The required distance from stores to schools and playgrounds must remain 1,000 feet.
Also, the state Liquor and Cannabis Board (formerly the Liquor Control Board) will remove the limit on the number of retail store licenses it issues. Previously, Redmond was limited to two licenses. This means there is the potential for more than two stores to seek to locate in Redmond.
Based on public feedback, the city may propose changes to regulations in early 2016. The Planning Commission would hold a public hearing on any proposed changes. After the public hearing, the City Council would consider any proposed changes.
