Community members are invited to roll up their sleeves and participate in the City of Redmond’s first-ever Green Redmond Day, a community-wide tree-planting event slated to take place from 9 a.m. to noon this Saturday.

The event, sponsored by the Green Redmond Partnership, will be hosted at a variety of locations, including the Heron Rookery, Westside Park, Viewpoint Park and the Watershed Preserve. Green thumbs of all ages are invited and encouraged to participate.

“The success of community-driven projects like Green Redmond Day is a testament to the passion and dedication of our residents,” said City of Redmond Mayor John Marchione. “The event presents an ideal opportunity for community members young and old to collaborate with friends, neighbors and colleagues and help strengthen the city’s ongoing restoration efforts.”

Redmond, Seattle, Tacoma, Kirkland, Kent and Everett make up the Green Cities Network and are collectively working to restore 7,500 acres of publicly owned urban forests and natural areas serving a population of more than 1.1 million people.

Redmond’s Green Redmond Day endeavor is an integral part of this unified effort. More than 2,000 Puget Sound residents are expected to volunteer at Green City Day events hosted around the region this fall.
