Community Scholarship Awards available for teens

The American Legion Post 161 and Redmond Teen Programs are sponsoring a Community Scholarship Awards program to support students interested in pursuing post-secondary education and to spark the desire to become active contributing citizens of Redmond and the greater community through community service.

The American Legion Post 161 and Redmond Teen Programs are sponsoring a Community Scholarship Awards program to support students interested in pursuing post-secondary education and to spark the desire to become active contributing citizens of Redmond and the greater community through community service.

The final application form must be submitted by April 15 at 5 p.m. Application forms must be filled out completely and properly and include verification of 150 community service hours performed between July 2010 and April 2011 (half of which must be completed in Redmond) and a brief essay describing future plans and the significance of the community service. Essays must be a thousand-word typed autobiographical piece focusing on the impact that the scholarship may have on the applicant’s personal goals and the significance of the community service work they chose. The application must also include an official high school transcript or copy of GED certificate and two letter of recommendation from community members.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and Redmond residents, between the ages of 16 and 21, have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 and graduating in June of 2011. Relatives of the selection committee are ineligible to receive awards„„.
