Emanuel Fair, a convicted sex offender who faces first-degree murder charges for killing a young Redmond woman two years ago, was arraigned Wednesday morning in King County Superior Court and pleaded not guilty.

He’s accused of killing 24-year-old Arpana Jinaga, a beloved software engineer who was sexually assaulted and then strangled to death in her apartment after a 2008 Halloween party.

The murder charge, announced Oct. 29 by King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg, was filed when Fair was serving a 43-month sentence in prison for failing to register as a sex offender.

Fair’s next court date, a case setting hearing, is scheduled for Nov. 24 at the King County Courthouse.
