Redmond City Council held a study session on Tuesday that was open to the public regarding the homeless-encampment and retail-marijuana issues.

During the homeless-encampments portion of the meeting, council discussed and analyzed: regional and sub-regional homelessness issues, RCW 35A.21.360, fees, length of stay, days between stays, number of stays under a single permit and type of permit.

One main issue was council analyzing the recommendations on length of stay from the Technical Committee (120 days) versus the Planning Commission (180 days). Four of the seven council members supported the 120-day length of stay, which is 10 days longer than the current permit.

There was general council consensus to keep the permit fee at the Technical Committee recommendation and current fee of $2,684.36.
