Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) will announce the winner and host an awards reception for Washington First District high school students who submitted entries in the annual Congressional Art Competition from 6:30-8 p.m. Monday at the VALA Art Center, 16409 74th St., Redmond.

The winner’s artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year and runners-up will be displayed in the congresswoman’s congressional office. Three local artists will determine the winner, who will get to travel to Washington, D.C., to see their work displayed.

The competition, which was initiated by Congress in 1982, involves hundreds of thousands of ninth- through 12th-graders from across the nation. One piece of artwork from each congressional district is displayed in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C.
