Evan de Kruif and Madeline Kusters of Redmond are among seven Eastside Catholic School Commended Students in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program.

“The National Merit scholars at Eastside Catholic School represent a wonderful sampling of interests and competences,” said Principal Polly Skinner. “These students embody a strong commitment to academic excellence, leadership and service to others. We are proud of their accomplishments in the classroom and the quality of the relationships they have developed with their classmates and teachers.”

A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, was presented by Principal Skinner, Vice Principal Mark Zmuda and President and CEO Sister Mary Tracy to these seniors.

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2014 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2014 competition by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
