In response to the epidemic levels of pertussis in Washington, Overlake Medical Clinics will be offering the TDaP vaccine at several of its neighborhood clinics on the Eastside, including Redmond, during a special four-week period starting June 4.

Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are also welcome. The cost will be $44 cash for each vaccine and insurance will not be billed. Patients will receive a receipt to submit to insurance for reimbursement.

“With more than 1,700 cases reported statewide so far this year, we want to make sure we’re doing the right thing for our community. Many adults do not have primary care providers or easy access to these vaccines so we thought it important to provide this service,” said Alan Ertle, Overlake chief medical officer and vice president of network development. “That’s why we’re offering the pertussis vaccine in convenient locations throughout the Eastside.”

Only one TDaP vaccine is needed in a lifetime and can replace one of the 10-year Td tetanus booster doses in adults, but reactions may increase if the interval is shorter than five to 10 years. Getting the TDaP vaccine is important during an outbreak like this, especially if you are at higher risk of contracting pertussis because of close contact with children.
