Albert Einstein Elementary School recently held its 4th Annual Egg Drop.

This contest challenged students to design and build an egg-cradling contraption that could withstand a 65-foot drop, with the egg intact.

With 173 entries from all grade levels, the submissions varied from a simple in an egg in a watermelon, to complex geometric shapes assembled with straws and wire. There were rules including a size limit and no parachutes, styrofoam or bubble wrap.

The contraptions were dropped, one by one from a Kirkland Fire Department ladder truck. This year there were 95 survivals and 78 splats.
