Students, staff and parents filled the blacktop (below) at Redmond’s Albert Einstein Elementary School Thursday afternoon for the school’s first-ever Egg Drop.

The event was organized by physical education specialist Cheryl Plate and parent volunteer Christine Thein. Students were encouraged to build a contraption to hold a raw egg that would be dropped 60 feet from the top of a fire ladder. They weren’t allowed to use bubble wrap, Styrofoam or helium-filled balloons. There were more than 100 entries.

Josh Peeples, Rick Sinclair and Caleb Freeman from Redmond Fire Station 16 were also in attendance and provided the aerial ladder truck.
