Up-and-coming Seattle fiber artist Suzanne Tidwell will create a small installation of her artificial light exhibition in the courtyard outside Redmond City Hall at 15670 NE 85th St.
On Thursday Dec. 1 from noon to 1 p.m. beginning in the City Hall lobby, Tidwell will be onsite to talk about and tour her installation. She will be joined by artist and art historian Sandra Baker for a talk about the history of fiber arts and how it has evolved from craft to art.
“When I see a length of material or a ball of yarn, I instantly know what it should be,” said Tidwell, who designed the “Sammamish Trees” installation in downtown Sammamish. “For me, art is the realization of the many ideas I see in my head. These ideas evolve from images that come to me as bright flashes of thought. I manipulate these pictures over and over in my mind, rearranging and reordering, adding and subtracting elements until my idea is clear enough to become something real.”
The mini artificial light exhibition will be installed through February and is a preview of the full exhibition Tidwell will install at Anderson Park on March 8, 2012.
